The business area "Strategical Research" builds the foundation of the company blz. With project-oriented support by the public authorities, the basics for the other business areas are developed mainly self-financed. The expertise which results from the strategic research is put into practice as tranfer institution, engineering partner, testing laboratory and manufacturer of systems and components. The profit that is produced in these areas is then reinvested in the financing of the strategical research. 

 

With the intention to create new knowledge and generate impulses for innovations, the research institution blz initiates, coordinates and executes regional, national and European research projects. Laser application in technology and medicine is almost always at the focus of the activities. If necessary, fundamental research is carried out  too, with the aid of the German Research Foundation (DFG). The medium-term vision, however, is always application.
