In 2003 the Bavarian Laser Centre started the cooperation with the DIN CERTCO certification organisation and was approved as testing laboratory. In the newly formed business area "Examination & Certification", the blz is since then examining eye safety filters, frames and laser shieldings with regard to their resistance to laser radiation according to the currently valid norms.

 

• Testing and certification of eye safety equipment and shieldings against laser radiation
• Assessment and consulting with regard to laser safety of individual systems, production lines and complete production facilities
• Measuring of radiation exposure in the working environment
• Classification of laser systems and assigning of the "DINgeprüft" quality mark (tested according to DIN standards)
• Assistance for the application of norms and regulations as well as calculations and risk analysis
• Training for laser safety officers (material processing, measurement engineering, medicine, show-applications; in-house-training is possible, too)

 

As a member of the DIN work group "laser safety", the blz also actively engages in the development of norms. It is one of the main goals of this work group to develop a new revised form of the DIN standard EN 207 ("Personal Eye Safety – Filters and Eye Safety against Laser Radiation"). This revision, which is to give consideration to the current developments in laser technology and radiation protection, shall be submitted to the boards in charge. It has to be guaranteed that the high security standards of this European norm with regard to laser resilience of safety filters are preserved during the planned transition into an internationally valid ISO standard.
