"Practical training for laser safety officers to refresh and deepen their specialist knowledge"
Description of the event
Background of the practical training:
According to current legal regulations, laser safety officers must complete a refresher course every five years to keep their expertise in workplace laser safety up to date. This practical training fulfills all the requirements for the continuing education of laser safety officers as stipulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. OStrV, TROS Laser radiation and DGUV Principle 303-005.
Objective:
Our practical training is aimed at all laser safety officers who
- to fulfill their continuing education obligations and refresh their professional knowledge,
- want to find out about the current status of the regulations,
- who wish to deepen their knowledge of measurement technology and safety-relevant calculations,
- want to learn about the latest developments in operational laser safety
- Over 30 years of experience in the training and further education of laser safety officers
- More than 30 years of expert advice on industrial laser safety
- Over 20 years of experience in testing laser safety products
- Research on current topics in laser beam protection
- Participation in standards committees and working groups on laser safety
and preferably in a practical way and in intensive exchange with theLaser safety experts from blzand want to further educate the other course participants.
Target audience:
This training course is primarily aimed at current laser safety officers whose last training was five years ago or more. Of course, all other occupational safety professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge of laser safety are also welcome.
To use:
The practical laser safety training deliberately focuses on "learning by doing" and combines theoretical background knowledge with hands-on exercises at various laser workstations – both in the laboratory and on machines. Everyday questions raised by the participants are discussed within the group to identify practical solutions.

Overview
During the training course, participants have the opportunity to evaluate typical laser workstations both in the laboratory and at the machine from a laser safety perspective, to try out various measurement techniques, to perform safety-relevant calculations, and to learn to assess the protective potential of shielding materials and protective windows using laser bombardment tests.
The practical training includes:
- Working on tasks in small groups to refresh specialist knowledge
- Group work on hazard assessment at specific laser workstations to deepen specialist knowledge
- Handling of measuring instruments around the laser beam
- Measurement of various laser beam sources
- Calculation and measurement of eye safety distances
- Safety goggle calculations
- Ballistic tests of laser safety windows and shielding plates on a kW laser
- Discussion of specific questions from the participants
